How to Run for Local Elected Office

How to Run for Local Elected Office
How does a person run to be elected to the Winona School Board, City Council or Winona County Board? Is a campaign committee needed? What are the keys to a successful run for a local elected position?
The Winona Area Chamber of Commerce will host a Candidate School on Tuesday, March 11 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Winona Chamber Conference/Training room. In this non-partisan workshop, participants will learn from experienced public service veterans the basics of running for a local elected position. This workshop is open to anyone who is interested in learning more about how local campaigns really work, whether it is from a candidate perspective or as a volunteer supporter of a local candidate.

The workshop won’t stop with the basics of local campaigning. Attendees will learn about what really happens after winning an election, what financial compensation or potential benefits are available for those elected to local boards and councils, and what local governance is all about.
